About Ms. Carissa
Carissa Unrein grew up in Colorado on
the Front Range. She attended grade school and high school
in the suburbs of Denver before continuing onto college at
Colorado State University in Fort Collins. During her time
at CSU, Carissa began studying science before finishing her
degree in math education. In the fall of 2005, Carissa student
taught at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins. Come
the spring of 2006, she decided to move up to Steamboat Springs.
Prior to coming to North Routt Community Charter School, she
was a track coach and summer school math teacher for Steamboat
Springs Middle School. She also taught math at Steamboat Springs
High School during the 2006-2007 school year. Carissa's goal
for all her students is to provide them with a structured,
nurturing environment that allows them to grow as learners
and people. Carissa is very excited to be apart of NRCCS.
Not only does she have an adventurous spirit, but also she
loves the priceless experiences that all students receive
in multigrade classrooms and on their excursions. On her free
time, Carissa enjoys many things such as reading, biking,
rock climbing, backpacking, drawing, snowboarding/skiing,
and painting. This is going to be a wonderful school year
